One of the places I go the most (and you will probably hear about the most) is Cedar City, Utah.
I really enjoy the drive to Cedar because the scenery gradually changes from desert to mountainous, and that means lots of bright, vibrant colors. This last trip was especially nice because a thunderstorm was rolling through the southwest.

We have a summer home up there, which is nice, because it is so hot here in Vegas, and Cedar is usually at least 10-15 degrees cooler. It rained pretty much nonstop while we were there, except for a few hours one of the days.
We tried a new place to eat, and it almost seems like the only thing we do when we go to Cedar - work and eat. I've recently been introduced to Thai food (which I will mention in a future post about Seattle!) so we tried a place called Sweet Basil Thai (I believe it's the only Thai place in town). It was pretty good and fairly busy, considering it was late-ish (9 PM is late for a small town) and rainy.

The next morning, we walked down Main Street with our dog, but because it was Sunday, nothing was open. On both sides of the street you can find tons of places to eat and a bunch of little shops, which are definitely worth checking out when they are open.
Later on, we went on a walking trail that goes up the canyon, parallel to the road that will take you back to Cedar Breaks. It's really scenic, with lots of natural vegetation on either side and a creek to hold the rain and melted snow coming down from the mountain. The path is very dog friendly, and you're likely to run into a few cute, furry faces. The hike is fairly easy (it's paved) making it suitable for most ages/abilities and you can walk, run, or bike.
The following day, my mom and I ventured on a hike that we've done almost every time we go up to Cedar. It's only about two and a half miles (we walk to Starbucks...it's our reward), but we conquer this super steep hill within the first mile that wipes you out. And I got a sunburn (wow, good job, self...getting sunburned the only time it's sunny out). But we made it! And each time we do, it seems to get easier. (Side note: The staff at this Starbucks have always been super friendly and helpful!)
The drive back home is always a sad one. One that I never want to take, but must. The return trip after much needed days away means returning to reality...and who wants that?
Check out this short little video I made of our weekend getaway! Mostly of the drive and my dog, Madison, having fun in the grass!
